We are of the opinion, that when it comes to modeling amps and effects, straightforward copies of the real thing aren't that great. Most "legendary" devices came about not on the drawing board, but had gradually evolved into what the users seek out as a result of intense cooperation between musicians and engineers. Amp engineers and musicians have a very concrete idea of the end product, and work on a model for a long time, until it perfectly fits their expectations of their eyes and ears.
Our development process went the same route: we wanted "our" guitar amp, "our" bass, "our" stomps. Developers, musicians and beta testers gave their all to create a product with a personality of its own, which has the power to inspire and has a broad spectrum of expression.
In spite of the focus on "Custom Amplification", it was our wish that replicating sounds of past decades should be easy and achievable in mere seconds.

This requires high variability in amplification engines and other components. In this case, saying that VANDAL has a multiple-personality disorder wouldn't be that far off!
In the age of completely digitalized music production, it appears more and more important to program some "life" and character into digital tools. Incorporating characteristics that are not immediately measurable is not that easy. We have embarked on a long and exciting research journey to solve this problem. This ground-breaking work is at the heart of VANDAL and led us directly to consider which features most guitarists and bassists really need and which are less important at the start. When updating the software range of functions, we always hold to the precept of "quality over quantity".
